A Spicy Economy

Yesterday someone recommended this brilliant podcast to me and seeing as I like to spread the audio love, here it is, today I'm recommending it to you :)

The programme takes you on a 20 minute journey of how spices travelled across the globe and affected our world economy as they did so.  It's the first time I've listened to a Planet Money programme and I will definitely be tuning in again; each episode takes a concept and examines the economics behind it.  So if you want to get an exciting and captivating way to understand more about the global economy, I can't think of a better way to start.

This morning I've been listening to the author of Life Inc. Douglas Rushkoff talk to Dr. Moira Gunn.

For those who haven't come across this book or Douglas Rushkoff, you will enjoy this talk if you are into high level economics, media, work and radical ways of re-thinking our world.  Rushkoff comes across as passionate and rational with some really interesting thoughts based on analytical observations.

This show comes from a great series called Tech Nation, presented by Dr. Moira Gunn, as part of IT Conversations, where you can find other similarly thought provoking and informative interviews.

I know I haven't posted anything for a couple of days, but I have a few audio gems in store to share with you over the next few days, starting with this talk I listened to today: "SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance" by Stephen Dubnar.

I was certainly looking forward to this talk, as I currently have the author's first book ' Freakonomics' on my bedside table.  Dubnar rather unusually begins his talk with hand hygiene as an analogy for human behaviour going on to global cooling and other diverse topics linked by a meandering thread.  I particularly enjoy this type of content, which is both high level and covers a diverse, sometimes bizarre, range of topics hence the one hour podcast was a great listen for me.

This talk hails from The Free Library of Philadelphia, where you can find similarly interesting and educational content to massage your intelligence.
